How To Stock A Home Bar On A Budget | The Complete Cheat Sheet

Stock Your Bar On Any Budget

Every gentleman needs a properly stocked bar.  Whether an impromptu guest or a small social get-together, having an appropriate bar setup is critical. And you don't need to break the bank to set up your bar.  We've outlined the key bar essentials for every budget.

 $50 Budget

At this entry-level budget you need versatile liquors. We suggest vodka and bourbon. Pair these two with a variety of mixers to yield an extensive cocktail selection. For the mixers we suggest soda water, ginger beer and lime juice. You are now equipped to prepare the following cocktails:

  • Moscow Mule
  • Kentucky Mule
  • Gimlet
  • Vodka Soda (w/Lime)
  • Bourbon Mojito (if you have sugar and mint)
  • Bourbon neat or on the rocks
  • Vodka + anything in your fridge

$100 Budget

Once you've stocked your bar with the above essentials, we suggest adding a Tequila and more mixers, such as Margarita Mix, Bloody Mary Mix, Bitters, Maraschino Cherries and an orange (or orange juice).  From here, you are ready to enjoy:

  • Margarita
  • Bloody Mary
  • Bloody Maria (Tequila instead of Vodka)
  • Whiskey Sour (w/ Margarita Mix & Lime - we prefer some cherry juice too)
  • Old Fashioned
  • Tequila Old Fashioned
  • Mexican Mule
  • Tequila Soda

$200 Budget

At this level, it's all about preference. If you are all about whiskey, add a top-shelf brand to your bar.  Or, perhaps you like Scotch or Japanese Whiskey. Gin is also very versatile. Whatever you choose, you definitely should include Bitters, Olives, Sweet Vermouth, and Dry Vermouth.  Additionally, you must step up your newly-found bartending lifestyle with proper glassware, copper mugs, and a bartender set.  We have listed our some of our favorites below.

Happy Bartending!
